Panda Ski School

We introduced Stephen and Matthew to downhill skiing this week. They took Panda Ski School lessons at Ski Cooper on Monday and by Tuesday they were swooshing down the mountain like little experts. At one point our whole family was going down a green. First me, then Stephen, Matthew and Christine. Stephen, Matthew and I were stopped on the mountain for a moment and Matthew asked, “Dad, why are we waiting?” “We’re waiting on mom,” I said.

Christine had a lesson too while the boys were in ski school and her skills improved dramatically. Stephen and Matthew have no fear though (not necessarily a good thing:) ) and are passing both of us.

Here’s a picture of them in Panda Ski School (Stephen is #7 and Matthew is #9):

Snowy Colorado

We are having the best time in Breckenridge, Colorado. We transferred my parent’s timeshare to a condo overlooking the town and ski resort. Absolutely beautiful. Even more fun was the 8 inches of snow that fell the first two days we were here. Awesome! Here are a few pictures. (The extra little boy in both of these pictures is my nephew, Daniel Wolfe)

Matthew the Photographer

My youngest son, Matthew, LOVES taking pictures. And you know what, he’s quite good at it. Shooting from perspectives not usually seen by adults he’s got some great pictures. I’m going to have to help him create a web album for all of you to see. Should be easy with my new mac. We’ll see what happens:)

It’s a cowboy!

Yesterday, we stopped in Weatherford, Texas, on our way to see Christine’s parents in San Angelo. While waiting in line a tall man walked in with Wrangler jeans, cowboy boots and a huge cowboy hat. In amazement Matthew looked up to Christine and whispered, “Mom it’s a cowboy!”

Happy Birthday Stephen!

My firstborn son turned 9 this week! Amazing! Wow, the years are flying by. Today we’re having his third party! The first one was last Saturday, the second on his birthday and today another with all of his cousins in Searcy. Party, party, party!

Thank you Lord for my son Stephen. Thank you for blessing our family with his life. Thank you for entrusting him to Christine and I. Thank you for the man that he is becoming. Thank you for his precious heart and generous spirit. Bless him Lord that he will have the honor and privilege to walk with You all his days.

It’s automatic!

Friday, after our 10 hour flight to Dallas, as we headed to the passport/customs room we stopped by the restroom. I finished first and while waiting for the boys in the walkway, Matthew came running out of the bathroom with excitement on his face and exclaimed: After I went potty the toilet flushed automatically!

Welcome to America Matthew!

Furlough, Women’s Meeting & the Boys:)

As our furlough quickly approaches, we have been trying to prepare ourselves and those we work with for our departure. At my meetings last month with the Sedome and Batoe women, I encouraged them to keep meeting together and praying for each other. We made a plan to meet together this month in Agodeke to pray for the women in that new church. So this past Monday I drove to Batoe and joined the women in the hour long walk to Agodeke. Sedome women also walked 45 minutes from their village to meet with us in Agodeke. There were a total of 24 women at the meeting. Most of them walked 45 minutes to an hour to get there. I was so thankful to share in that day with them and to see their willingness to come and encourage the Agodeke christians.

We spent our time singing and praying for each other. The Agodeke women prepared a meal for everyone. Before the meal was served, one of the women from Batoe asked that everyone give 50 francs to help with the meal. I was touched by this gesture. Agodeke is a very poor village and it is very expensive to feed such a large crowd. I was encouraged to see the women from Batoe and Sedome helping the Agodeke christians. Please pray for the women of these three villages. Pray that they will indeed meet together and pray for one another. Pray especially for the women of Agodeke. They are very young in their faith and face daily persecution from the pagans in their village. Pray that the Batoe and Sedome women will support and encourage them.

Stephen and Matthew are doing great! They only have one week left of school. This past school year has passed so quickly. The boys are very excited to go to Rwanda next month. They are also thrilled to go to America and see their grandparents and cousins.

Breaking the news about Santa

Well, the time finally came to break the news about Santa to Stephen and Matthew, true believers up until recently!

I sat them down for a father/son(s) chat and talked about the history of Christmas, our celebration of Jesus’ birth (for he was born whether or not it was 12/25), the history of St. Nick and giving presents, etc. All went well until we got to the part where St. Nick wasn’t alive anymore! Gasp… ‘Then who is Santa?’ Well, Santa is pretend, a lot like Star Wars. The Star Wars analogy really made sense in their minds.

‘But there is still a Santa,’ I told them. ‘Mom is Santa.’ ‘Ohhhhhhh.’ That makes sense. Then Stephen, precious child, said with a quiet voice, “Let’s not tell mama that we know.” So, they know, but Santa doesn’t know that they know (at least that’s what they think). So, more fun has been added to this Santa season as we work hard to keep Santa from knowing that we know who he(she) is:)

Merry Christmas everyone!

Matthew is doing better

Matthew is doing much better today, thanks be to the Lord. He hasn’t had a fever all day!

Pray for Matthew

Matthew is sick this week. Headache and fever. This is very typical of malaria. However, when we tested him for malaria it was negative. Sometimes though the tests aren’t accurate so we’re treating him for malaria anyway. Pray that God will heal his little body.

He’s living the high life even though he’s sick. He has mom’s special attention, got to stay home from school and watch Giligan’s Island all day. Stephen was a little jealous:)
